New Herd of Pilot Whales in Cove

Our colleague Sakura, volunteering for us as a Cove Monitor in Taiji, informs me that 30-40 pilot whales were herded into the Cove today in Japan.
It is unusual to see so many pilot whales being caught this early in the season; usually they see them more in the spring.
Their fate is unknown at this time. Sakura is heading home after helping us at the Cove for several weeks, and a new Cove Monitor will be arriving shortly.
Taiji dolphin-hunting boats head out into the ocean at dawn.
